Coaching versus Consulting

How to Best Determine Your Needs:

Briefly,

Coaching is a one-on-one relationship between the educator and the coach.  A coach will help you identify what it is you want, assist you in making plans to reach that goal, and support you as you explore and refine your instructional practices.  With coaching, you do most of the problem solving as I am mainly a facilitator of this process.  Coaching usually occurs a set time each week and is most often done over the telephone at a designated time and day. A coach can be a great support for you as you create your goals and need some support elevating to them.

Consulting can be one-on-one, in a group, or an entire staff or department.  In this role, I become more of the "expert" on program development, instructional practices, and efficient problem/solution development.  If I provide this service for educators, there are often many questions and perceived obstacles so it becomes my responsibility to provide answers and solutions.  Consulting is very effective when the current program structures are not providing desired results and the leadership team in place would like new ideas or support in making effective and educated changes.
